David is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with a wide breadth of commercial experience gained in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and China. He has acquired experience in a range of conflict conflict avoidance, management and resolution roles. These include healthcare, residential, offices, oil/gas facilities, offshore construction and renewable energy.

David is a Bond Solon accredited expert witness and member of the Academy of Experts. He has been appointed as quantum expert on various occasions in adjudications, international arbitration and the high court. David has also been cross-examined on his expert evidence in international arbitration and at the Technology and Construction Court in London.

Career

Trained and employed as a mechanical and electrical (M&E) quantity surveyor in London from 1999 until 2007, David moved to the Middle East for nine years between 2007 and 2016 where he primarily focused on claims and the avoidance, management and resolution of disputes. Whilst overseas, he also worked as a quantity surveyor (QS) for a large offshore oil/gas and renewable energy contractor before returning to work in the field of dispute resolution. David returned to London in 2016 and first helped establish Project CDR before setting up Novus in 2019. Since his return, David has been involved in the provision of expert services and the preparation of claims for employers and contractors in the determination and settlement of disputes. In the second quarter of 2019, David completed a secondment in Belfast as contracts manager for an offshore contractor building wind farm foundation jackets for use off the coast of England. The jackets were successfully installed offshore in the summer of 2019.

Experience

David has been appointed as an expert witness on quantum in disputes concerning a Chinese offshore lift boat vessel, a biomass facility in Wales, a flood defence scheme in Northern England and a variety of residential developments across the UK. David was cross examined on his expert evidence in the Chinese liftboat matter before a LMAA tribunal and in the TCC on the Wrexham biomass project. Prior to being appointed as an expert, David has also assisted some of the industry’s leading delay and quantum experts in the preparation of expert reports for arbitration and litigation. David has experience gained under Abu Dhabi Commercial Conciliation and Arbitration Centre (ADCCAC), Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and LMAA rules of arbitration.
