Ryan is an accomplished commercial, contracts and legal consultant. He has a wide range of experience gained in the UK, Europe, the USA, the Middle East, Africa and Indonesia. This experience has been acquired across commercial/contract management, legal, dispute avoidance and resolution roles. Ryan’s experience, includes offshore and onshore pipelines, offshore wind farms and oil/gas facilities.

Ryan was originally trained and employed as a commercial, legal and contracts manager in Aberdeen from 2012 until 2018, where his primary function was the commercial management of onshore and offshore pipeline construction projects throughout the world. Following the successful completion of an LL.M in Oil and Gas Law in 2017, Ryan was appointed as the sole in-house legal advisor providing specialist advice and strategic guidance for one of the largest pipeline construction companies in the oil/gas sector.

Throughout 2014, Ryan was involved in a number of cases heard in the Scottish Small Claims Court. Here he advised and successfully represented a number of contractors from the construction industry on the recovery of outstanding payments from their clients.

In 2018, Ryan left direct employment and established a consultancy specialising in the provision of commercial, legal and contractual advice to a variety of global contractors in the energy sector, ranging from large engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors to smaller, niche energy subcontractors.

Through this consultancy, Ryan was seconded into a well-known Middle East based offshore contractor as contracts manager on a large wind farm project building foundation jackets for use off the east coast of England. This secondment was completed in the summer of 2019 and included the management of two substantial EPC contracts for the construction of 60 foundation jackets which were fabricated in two yards, one in Vlissingen (the Netherlands) and the other in Belfast. The jackets were successfully installed offshore in the summer of 2019.

Ryan joined Novus Resolve in the summer of 2019. He uses his legal qualifications and practical site/shipyard experience to resolve and manage construction and energy disputes.
