In 2018, Ryan left direct employment and established a consultancy specialising in the provision of commercial, legal and contractual advice to a variety of global contractors in the energy sector, ranging from large engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors to smaller, niche energy subcontractors.

Through this consultancy, Ryan was seconded into a well-known Middle East based offshore contractor as contracts manager on a large wind farm project building foundation jackets for use off the east coast of England. This secondment was completed in the summer of 2019 and included the management of two substantial EPC contracts for the construction of 60 foundation jackets which were fabricated in two yards, one in Vlissingen (the Netherlands) and the other in Belfast. The jackets were successfully installed offshore in the summer of 2019.
